Liver is the largest internal organ. It is about the size of a football. It is present in the right side of abdomen under the rib cage. It has number of vital functions. It is essential for digestion of food and to get rid of body’s toxic substances. The liver regulates many chemical levels in the blood and excretes a product called bile. This helps carry away waste products from the liver. All the blood leaving the stomach and intestines passes through the liver. The five major functions of liver are:
1. Digestion.
2. Metabolism and detoxification.
3. Protein synthesis.
4. Storage of minerals and vitamins.
5. Filtration.
